ROGUE TOWN MOVIE FEST
Unconventional Stories of an Unconventional Town.
Welcome to Rogue Town Movie Fest, a celebration of Murwillumbah's colourful characters, local legends and unconventional stories.
From extraordinary bank heists and beer-filled rivers to banana festivals and larger-than-life personalities, this collection of four short films captures the humour, history and wonderfully eccentric spirit of our town.
Join us at the Regent Cinema for a special screening celebrating the stories and characters that make Murwillumbah unlike anywhere else.
Each film will be introduced by an MC, sharing a little extra insight into the people, places and personalities behind these remarkable stories.
Two dates, same program! Choose the session that suits you and enjoy all four films in one sitting.
THE PROGRAM
MURBAH SWAMP BEER (2002)
Directed by Gary Doust
When a truck carrying 40,000 bottles of beer crashes into the Tweed River just before Easter, the locals launch their own extraordinary salvage operation. A hilarious true story that became a Murwillumbah legend.
TAYLOR MADE (2004)
Directed by David Batty
Meet Phil Taylor, Murwillumbah's charismatic second-hand car salesman, whose family tradition of entering a float in the annual Banana Festival takes an unexpected turn. A wonderfully quirky portrait of family, cars and small-town life.
THEY GOT THE LOT
In 1978, Murwillumbah became the scene of one of Australia's most audacious bank robberies. Nearly $1.7 million vanished from a supposedly secure vault, leaving behind an extraordinary mystery that remains unsolved decades later.
BANANA BUSINESS (1990)
Directed by Amanda Midlam
Step back into the colourful world of Murwillumbah's legendary Banana Festival, when the entire town went bananas! A nostalgic and entertaining portrait of a community celebrating its identity, traditions and unique sense of humour.
SCREENING DATES
