Come along to the Regent Cinema on Thursday 16 April to meet one of Australia’s leading advocates for human rights, the Honourable Michael Kirby AC CMC, an internationally recognised jurist, educator, prolific author and engaging public speaker. Justice Kirby’s talk, part of the Democracy Matters series, will show us
why human rights must sit at the core of our democracy. The evening will also feature music by A Few Angry Villagers, a trio known for their dark country blues with a post‑modern twist.

in country music. Covering material from early trail blazers the Carter family and Kitty Wells through

country women including Emily Lubitz, Genna Pyewacket, Abbie Cardwell, Christina Webster and

Bleak Squad is a new Melbourne four-piece comprised of true Australian art-rockroyalty. Featuring Mick Turner (Dirty Three, Mess Esque) Mick Harvey (Nick Cave &The Bad Seeds, PJ Harvey, The Birthday Party), Adalita (Magic Dirt) and Marty Brown (Art of Fighting), the unlikely quartet unite for the first time on Bleak Squad's brooding, noir-rock debut LP, Strange Love, since shortlisted for the Australian Music Prize.
