Allowed to Birth: The Journey of a Global Midwife is a feature documentary that explores the growing medicalization of birth through the life and work of a dedicated midwife committed to protecting birth as a natural physiological process. Spanning cultures and continents, the film examines how modern maternity care has evolved, the consequences of routine medical intervention, and the efforts of birth professionals advocating for evidence-based, woman-centered care. Through intimate stories, expert perspectives, and real-life experiences, the documentary invites audiences to reconsider what it means to give birth with dignity, autonomy, and trust in the body's innate capacity. Ultimately, the film is both a personal journey and a broader exploration of the global movement to restore respectful, informed, and empowering birth.
Quality Used Cars M|Arts Precinct Event
Built around the idiosyncratic songwriting and warbling vocals of Francis Tait, and brought to life by a band of hard-working familiar faces from within Narrm/ Melbourne’s bubbling underground music communities, Quality Used Cars put full focus on Francis’ charismatic storytelling, over a backdrop that blends sunny Australiana with alt-country tenderness and scrappy garage-pop smarts.
Since getting started in 2020, “the Cars” have released two albums — 2021’s Good Days/Bad Days and Quality Of Life in 2023 — and performed constantly around Victoria and along Australia’s East Coast. They have also made appearances at Boogie 15, Town Folk Fest, Wonder Mountain and Backyard Fest and opened for the likes of MJ Lenderman, Carla Geneve and Watty Thompson.
Joining them for the Evening is Brisbane Punk Folk Heroine Emmy Hour and Local Legends Lune to the Moon.
